About Lev HaTorah
MISSION STATEMENT:
Our mission is to nurture inspired, confident, well-rounded
bnei Torah with the skills to learn independently,
while simultaneously developing a deep devotion to Eretz
Yisrael, Medinat Yisrael, and the entire Jewish
community.
At Lev HaTorah, we value the unique personalities and
interests of each of our students. Within the diverse
curriculum, our students ‘specialize’ in the topics
and styles of learning most suited to them. We do not
educate our students with a pre-existing “cookie cutter”
approach but rather guide each one according to his
own talents and individual character traits. After
yeshiva, our students pursue a wide range of paths:
universities, yeshivot, army service, and work. For
the faculty at Lev HaTorah, success is when a student
follows the path that will help him actualize his individual
strengths.
TORAH:
Broad Curriculum - For a well-rounded Jewish
life, study of Talmud is not enough. A deep understanding
of Judaism requires a global study that begins with
Tanach and includes the wisdom of the Jewish philosophers
and the halachic decisions of recent rabbinic
authorities. As a complement to our intensive, skills-oriented
Talmud curriculum, students take in-depth high-level
classes in Tanach, Jewish Philosophy, Practical
Halacha, Religious Zionism, and Tefila.
Multiple Perspectives- In each class,
teachers expose their students to a wide range
of opinions and perspectives – encouraging students
to recognize the validity of multiple approaches.
The positive, all encompassing atmosphere at Lev
HaTorah encourages students to think deeply about
their beliefs and intuitions without scorning those
that disagree with them. The well-rounded curriculum
leads to refined, thoughtful, and open-minded students.
Textual skills – The ability to study
independently and think creatively about Torah
texts enables students to make learning a lifetime
pursuit. To this end, we focus our curriculum on
the building of strong textual and conceptual skills.
LEADERSHIP:
Leadership and Organizational Skills
– With the guidance of our staff, our students
plan and implement community service projects –
giving them the experience and insight to continue
serving the community effectively for the rest of
their lives.
Mentoring for Life - Our rebbeim are
not merely classroom teachers – they serve as lifelong
mentors. During the year, students learn as much from
their rebbeim while visiting them in their
homes as they do in the Beit Midrash. Because
so many of our rebbeim (20) live in the neighborhood,
our students have the opportunity to learn from the
way they relate to their spouses and children, how
they celebrate Shabbat, and how they prioritize Torah
and chessed as crucial components of their
lives. Frequent phone calls, e-mails, and visits to
the U.S. maintain the powerful student-teacher connection,
even after the yeshiva year is over. The mentoring
relationship motivates students to strive for greatness.
CHESED:
The Power to Make a Difference - Through
their many chessed projects, our students
gain first-hand knowledge of the many needs of the
Jewish community. The satisfaction of bringing joy
to an orphan, or of feeding 50 families with the
results of a week-long food drive, is enough to fuel
a lifetime of chessed leadership. Our students
gain a real understanding of the needs of their fellow
Jews and a powerful desire to make a difference.
ZIONISM:
The Jewish people can only fulfill its historic destiny
to be a 'light unto the nations' if we are again
a nation in our own land. The State of Israel
has introduced a new era of Jewish pride. Yeshivat
Lev HaTorah's programming reflects this philosophy. Learning
Hebrew, touring the land, and interacting with the
people of Israel engage talmidim as 'citizens of
Israel' throughout their year of study.
