Video Devices Policy

Dear Parent and Student,

Yeshivat Lev HaTorah welcomes and values the unique opportunity to create an environment conducive to growth and maturation. We are very excited about the incoming group of talmidim and look forward to a successful year in which you will hopefully develop into bnei Torah and fine human beings.

Over the past several years, we have noticed that video-capable devices have become a major obstacle to a student's success in yeshiva.  Although we all share the goal of making the utmost of the Yeshiva's great experiences and classes, on a practical level we have seen time and time again, that students missing out on classes and  on great experiences due to their video devices.

Therefore the yeshiva's policy will be to not allow any student to bring any video capable devices. This includes laptops, DVD players, PSP’s, Video iPods, MP4’s, iPhones, iTouch, video capable Blackberrys, or any electronic device that has the ability to play movies or provide video media.

As we recognize how this policy will affect the students' ability to listen to music, the Yeshiva has decided to give each student a video-free Apple iPod, AT NO COST.  This iPod will only be given on the condition that the student does not bring any devices with video capabilities. Upon arriving at the yeshiva, each student will give a $100 security deposit which will be returned at the end of the year.

Additionally, the yeshiva is investing a large sum of money to significantly upgrade our computer room. We will be enhancing internet speed as well as adding to the number of computers available to the students.

In the event the yeshiva discovers that a student possesses a video device during the year, the device will be returned to the student’s home at his family's expense. The yeshiva takes no responsibility for damage that may be incurred in transit. The student will then also forfeit the security deposit on the loaned iPod.

In order to receive your free iPod, please sign and return the attached form to the yeshiva by fax at 02-999-4640 or scan it to Rav Mo at mokaplan@gmail.com. The Yeshiva will be holding a number of Parent Orientations.  At the Parent Orientations, you will have an opportunity to hear about the yeshiva’s goals and policies, as well as to ask your questions.  We will also be handing out the iPods at that time.  If we are not coming to your city for a Parent Orientation, or you will be unable to attend the Parent Orientation in your city, we will ship the Ipod directly to your home.  This will enable you to upload all of your music before you come.

Thanks in advance for your commitment to this important policy.  We look forward to working with you during the upcoming year to ensure the greatest possible learning experience for your son. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at ravboaz@gmail.com or our program director, Rav Mordechai Kaplan at mokaplan@gmail.com.

Thank You,
Rav Boaz Mori
